Archeologist discoveries from the Osmar region came from the year of 1957. What was found then speaks clearly, that here, thanks to the proximity of the ancient capitals of the First Bulgarian Kingdom - Plyska and Preslav and the cult village Madara, long years (from IV BC until XIV AC) had been located in a big village. Many subjects have been found: aphoras, earthware with plenty of element from the tracian ceramics, pieces of walls with prints from the castle walls and churches and coins from the time of Michail Shyshman(1323-1330) and others.

Nothing has been found regarding a written document about the name of the village of Osmar (epygraphic or other sign). "Osmar" unarguably is an ancient name and is it very probable to be proven eventually. The origin of the name is tracian and is to be interpreted as "big village" or protobulgarian with the meaning of "leatherman", "wineskin" - in connection of the livelihood of the population - winery, or from the turkish "asma" - vine.

There are no arguments about the fact, only that this place is blessed by the Lord , where the best grape have been ever born, during the reignment of the severe Khan Krum - IX BC , only here , after his order all the vines throughout all the Bulgarian kingdom to be uprooted, the vines were saved.

In the end of the XIX and the beginning of the XX century begins, the growth of the wine industry, which starts to be the main livelihood of the population of the Osmar village. The peak in the sales of the Osmar wine was reached during the period of 1934-1944, when grapes and wine had been exported to the German, Austrian and Italian markets.

During the nationalization period of the private property, wine making in Osmar slows down to be resurrected in 1993 by Osmar Wine Cellar.
